Hi All,
Just chasing down some specs. I'm trying to run one client using my HDTV as the monitor. Right now, the most accurate reproduction is in the "normal" TV screen setting which goes nearly to the top and bottom but it leaves about 3" to either side black. Eve gives me the choice of normal or widescreen on the TV remote. The latter fills the screen but widens the aspect ratio. I'm typing this on a 22" Acer LED screen -- which is about the same ratio as the TV and the game looks good on this. Here is some relevant hardware information:
i5 2500k on a Z68 motherboard 16 GB Ram HD 7750 card running bone stock, HDMI out lots of storage Ethernet wired with a good signal TV has up to 1920 x 1080 resolution. It can't be set to "computer image" with the HDMI feed.
Are there any special tricks to having a TV as a monitor and using the screen to best effect?
Thanks for your help, sh

Thanks to all,
KATASKOPOS: I do have HDMI. The TV allows what it calls a "computer image" but it can only be configured with VGA or component connections.
Zach Breen and Inxentas Ultramar: I'll have a look at that when I get home. The PC is set to 1920x1080 but I scroll in and out on browsers not to squint. The 7750 is a decent card but I'm considering getting a GTX 660 for that PC so I can swipe the 7750 for the machine I'm working on now. Whether than happens or not, resolution is pretty good. So far I've only monkeyed with settings on the PC and the TV but not from within Eve.

Thanks!
More things to try when I get home. I'm actually setting this up for my wife. She is the space explorer. I'm the tech sergeant until we get a new HTPC organized. It started as a project to watch movies and blossomed into something larger.
In my lurkings I've seen a lot of cases of people running multiple clients on multiple screens but haven't seen anything about using a big screen for galactic travel and a smaller one (maybe an iPad on Splashtop) just off the main line-of-sight that has the fine print. It could even be two monitors side-by-side; one for action and one for accounting. She is going through the tutorials now and that would certainly help. I run a two-monitor rig for my business and am always dragging and dropping.
I'll report back after I've gotten hands-on with the HTPC.
Cheers, sh |

Got everything set up right. Kudos to all for your patience and spirit of community. The print (even at 125%) is still a bit hard to read. You may hear from me again about how to set up a wireless remote screen and keyboard/mouse that works better than an iPad. I'm not an Apple hater but I can see how they wouldn't appeal to a game played by independent spirits. sh |

In the end it was a matter fiddling with various resolutions, zooms and squint level. We also got an IPS monitor closer to the gamer for some detail. The new one is line-of-sight directly under the big one. She hasn't figured the the best settings for two together but it seems like a dual monitor setup would work well with the print screens on the hi-rez monitor and the great beyond on the big screen. Wireless headphones on the way.
As always, thanks to all Eve adherents for your expertise and patience, sh |
